Google announced on Google Blog 3 major innovations for subtitling in real time videos on YouTube:
- by activating the subtitle automatically when you view a YouTube video, subtitles appear on the video (they are created in real time using the technology of speech recognition in Google)
- you can choose to translate in real time in the 51 languages currently supported by Google's translation technology,
- for each of your videos, you can send (via your YouTube account) of a text file without having to take verbatim transcript to indicate the synchronization time because the technology Google will take care of sync with the video to display on your video subtitles.
This announcement is not only a huge step for the accessibility of video to the deaf and hard of hearing but also more generally for universal access to knowledge for everyone because everyone will be able to read real-time language subtitles for all YouTube videos.
These innovations are classified in accessibility 2.0 (access real-time data stream) and this is further proof that web accessibility has positive consequences for all.
