[Ideos is a member of Working Group Internet and Sustainable Development (Rights Forum on the Internet) ]
The issues of sustainable development are gradually entered the heart of political thinking. However, the Internet dimension of these issues remain largely unexplored issues while not lacking: technical accessibility of websites, linguistic and cultural diversity ...
de la Commission européenne, dont l'étude porte sur les problématiques d'accès à l'internet et aux technologies de l'information et de la communication, presque aucun site public français atteint le premier niveau d'accessibilité, tel que défini par la Web Accessibility Initiative . Major area of work for the French Presidency of the European Union in 2008, e-Accessibility is falling behind in France, according to the report "Measuring Progress of eAccessibility in Europe" published in October 2007 as part of the unit e- Inclusion of the European Commission, whose study focuses on the issues of access to the Internet and information technology and communication, almost no French public website reaches the first level of accessibility as defined by the Web Accessibility Initiative. No text yet come to implement the provisions of Article 47 of Law No. 2005-102 requiring public websites to make their content accessible to all.
Moreover, in the context of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, it seems essential to preserve the cultural and linguistic diversity on the Internet, and to safeguard for future generations of the intellectual heritage consists of all creations of the users the Internet.
For answers to these questions related to the Internet and Sustainable Development, the Forum of Internet Rights decided to establish in June 2008 the Working Group "Internet and Sustainable Development" brings together players in the industry ( Google, Ideos, Microsoft, Yahoo ...), academic (CNRS ...) and associative (AFNOR, Renaissance Numérique ...).
